What a Trade Show Touchscreen Costs: A Perth Guide

Trade show touchscreen software costs in Australia: what drives the price, indicative ranges by build type, hardware hire, and how Perth exhibitors save.

Trade show touchscreen cost breakdown: indicative software ranges for a templated app, a custom touchscreen, a bespoke 3D build and lead capture, with hardware hired separately.

You've been quoted for an interactive touchscreen for your next stand and the number either looks suspiciously cheap or makes you wonder what on earth takes that long. Both reactions are reasonable, because "a touchscreen for the stand" covers everything from a slideshow with buttons to a 3D model of your plant.

Short answer: A trade show touchscreen app in Australia costs anything from a few thousand dollars for a templated content app to tens of thousands for a bespoke 3D or computer vision experience. The price is driven by the content (2D, video or 3D), how many products and screens it covers, and whether it captures leads into your CRM. Hardware is usually hired separately.

What are you actually paying for?

Most of the cost of a trade show touchscreen is content and testing, not the screen. The software has to explain your product in under a minute, run unattended for three days, and survive thousands of fingers. Here is where the money goes.

| Cost driver | Cheaper end | Expensive end | | --- | --- | --- | | Content | Your existing photos, video and copy | Custom 3D models, animation, interactive simulations | | Scope | One product, five or six screens | A full range, a catalogue, multiple languages | | Interaction | Tap and swipe | Explode a 3D model, camera-based body tracking, AR | | Screens | One display | Several synchronised displays or a video wall | | Lead capture | None, or a simple email form | Qualifying questions, CRM integration, automatic follow-up | | Updates | Fixed content | An editor so your team updates specs between shows | | Reliability work | Basic | Offline mode, crash recovery, attract loop, kiosk lockdown |

The last row is the one that separates a show-floor build from a website on a big screen. A display that freezes at 10am on day one costs you more than the whole build did.

How much does each type of build cost?

These are indicative ranges for planning a budget, in AUD excluding GST, for the software only. Every project is quoted at a fixed price once the scope is clear, and your content, product range and integrations move the number.

Indicative software cost ranges for trade show interactive builds in AUD excluding GST: templated content touchscreen app about $5,000 to $15,000; custom touchscreen with video and animation about $15,000 to $30,000; bespoke 3D product touchscreen about $25,000 to $60,000; computer vision or motion game about $30,000 to $80,000; lead capture with CRM integration about $4,000 to $12,000 as an add-on

Caption: Indicative software ranges only. The content you already have is the biggest lever on where you land.

  1. Templated content app, roughly $5,000 to $15,000. Your photos, videos and copy, arranged into a tidy tap-through experience with an attract loop and a home button. Good for a catalogue or a single product story.
  2. Custom touchscreen with video and animation, roughly $15,000 to $30,000. Designed around your product, with animated explainers and a structure that lets a visitor drill into what they care about.
  3. Bespoke 3D product touchscreen, roughly $25,000 to $60,000. A 3D model of your product or system the visitor can rotate, open up and explore part by part. The CoolIT Systems installation, a data centre rack visitors open up from the cold plates to the coolant distribution units, is this kind of build.
  4. Computer vision or motion game, roughly $30,000 to $80,000. A camera tracks visitors and turns their movement into the experience, like Nutrien's Nutrients 4 Revolution installation. Higher because tracking has to be tuned for hall lighting and crowds.
  5. Lead capture with CRM integration, roughly $4,000 to $12,000 as an add-on. A short capture step, qualifying questions, and leads landing in HubSpot, Salesforce or your CRM, with an automatic follow-up email. See trade show lead capture with AI.

If you already have good 3D models of your product (from engineering CAD or a previous render), a 3D build gets noticeably cheaper, because modelling is often the largest single line item.

What about the hardware?

For a single show, hire it. Touchscreens, kiosk enclosures and large displays are available from AV hire companies in Perth and every other capital, delivered to the venue and collected afterwards. Check current rates with the hire company, since they depend on screen size, duration and whether they install it.

Buy only if you exhibit several times a year and the same screen will also live in your reception or showroom. Either way, lock in the exact model early: the software is designed for a specific size and orientation, and it should be tested on that model before it ships.

What does it cost to run after the show?

Very little, if it's built properly. A touchscreen app that runs offline has no ongoing hosting cost on the show floor. If leads sync to a CRM, or the content is managed online, hosting is usually under $50 a month. An optional retainer covers content updates between shows and a call during show days in case anything needs changing.

How do Perth exhibitors keep the cost down?

Perth's calendar makes reuse easy. EXA (formerly AOG Energy) returns to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on 2 to 4 March 2027, GRX brings mining and METS suppliers to the same venue, and many WA exhibitors also take stands at east coast shows. The same app can run at all of them.

A five-step plan for Perth exhibitors to reduce trade show touchscreen cost: start from existing CAD and video, build one experience for several shows, hire screens locally, make content editable, and add lead capture so the build pays for itself

Caption: The cheapest touchscreen is the one you build once and run at every show you attend.

  • Start from what you already have. CAD models, product video and photography cut content cost more than any other decision.
  • Build once for several shows. Spread the cost across EXA, GRX, an east coast show and your reception screen.
  • Hire screens locally, ship nothing. The software is installed on the same screen model and set up with your team over a call. Rootech is Melbourne-based and delivers for Perth and WA businesses remotely, so there's no travel line on the quote unless an install genuinely needs one.
  • Make the content editable. Changing a spec or adding a product between shows should not mean paying for a rebuild.
  • Capture leads. An interactive display that records who explored which product pays for itself faster than one that only impresses people.

Is a custom touchscreen worth it compared with a looping video?

Sometimes not. If your product is simple, your stand is small, and your team will be talking to everyone who stops, a good looping video on a screen does most of the job for a fraction of the cost. A custom touchscreen earns its keep when the product is complex enough that visitors need to explore it, when your team can't talk to everyone, or when you'll run it at several shows a year.

Ask yourself one question: what does a visitor need to understand in 60 seconds that a video can't show them? If you can't answer it, start with the video. We cover choosing between touchscreen, motion, AR and VR in interactive trade show displays for Perth exhibitors.

How long does a build take?

Plan on four to eight weeks for a custom touchscreen app, depending mostly on how quickly content is signed off, and longer for 3D or computer vision work. Booking the build once your floor space is confirmed avoids paying for a rush.

Frequently asked questions

Is the touchscreen software mine after the show?

It should be. Ask for the app, its content files and the rights to reuse it at future events in writing before you start. Reuse across shows is where most of the value is, and you don't want a licence that ends when the expo does.

Can the same app run on a tablet for sales reps?

Usually, if that is planned from the start. Layouts are designed for a screen size and orientation, so a version for tablets is extra design work, but the content and logic carry over. It's much cheaper than building a second app later.

Why do quotes for the same touchscreen vary so much?

Because "touchscreen app" can mean very different scopes. Compare quotes on content (2D or 3D), number of screens and products, offline operation, crash recovery, lead capture and who owns the result. A cheap quote that leaves out reliability work often costs more on the show floor.

Do I need someone from the developer at the show?

Not for a well-built app. It should boot straight into the experience, recover by itself and be restartable by your team. Remote support during show hours covers content tweaks; travel is only worth it for complex multi-screen installs.
